'Come on lads, get a move on!'
'A'right, give us a hand shovin' this thing over...'
'The fat bastard collected fair few things did't he, eh? Look a' this here! What d'you suppose thats meant to be?'
'Looks like some kinda predator skull - see them there? they's canines for gripping unto their prey.'
'Hey up, look at Mr. Know-It-All'
'Shuddup, Fred. They would'a 'ad different shaped teeth if it were sommat tha' just ate veg.'
'Here lads... Theres a lot of bones in this place, eh?'
'Nobody round these parts with a conscience liked Clementine. D'you see what he done to them wolves? Its not natural...'
'Yeah, well, nature got its own back on him, did't it? Eh?'

The sound of heavy footsteps padded down crickety stairs. Underneath the man's foot, a plank squeaked. The temperature dropped for every step he took, alone, down into the slight air of damp that gave his voice a muted texture.

'Down here lads...'

He called, echoing. But his attention snapped to a corner of the darkened room, where, very, very, oh so faintly, a gentle whimpering sound was being released. Looking up towards the light, he drew a candle from an inside pocket. Instantly, as the stem was lit, the surrounding area turned a glossy shade of blue green.
The whimpering became louder until he found his way across the room and stepped back in alarm.
The cage shone with a superior, metallic glare, reflecting off everything the light could get to. The top was dusty, as were the bars that looked as though nothing could have touched it in an age - although, he supposed, it was only a few days. Along with the dust, the metal box was wet, from the damp. Damp dust. Nice, Clementine...

But it was what was through and beyond the bars of the cage that were most intriguing. Well. Actually, it repulsed him.

Whimpering, flat and shivering on the cold floor was an elegant white object. The beast's eyes were shut, and the breath fell and rose lightly within its hollow chest. Feathers lined the bottom of the prison, white, dove like, and he realised with horror that they were melted and sewn into the canine's skin!
Retrieving a small double axe/hammered tool, he began to hack into the bolt that locked the iron door. Another five, maybe ten minutes passed before he managed to break it.
The door gave a long, indignant squeal as it was pushed aside, and the man dragged the body of the emaciated wolf from its solitary home. All that was left in the cage was the snowy down, an empty water bowl, and long chewed bones.

The light and hollow body fell with a soft 'thump' against the floor, candle sitting not too far away, and the man proceeded to run his hands along the creatures sides. It was a wolf. But aside from being extremely malnourished and badly treated, he seemed quite healthy. As he checked for any more injuries, the humen suddenly wondered whether saving it was the right idea... there was a price now for wolf fur, they were hunting them now... If he just hacked it with his hammer, he could just sell it to Lovell and get his furs share of it...
Regardless of these doubts running through his mind, he continued to check the vital areas. He reached the head; ears, eyes, nose.... mouth.

The white wolf's deep blue eyes burst open in a flare of frozen inferno, the human stopped long enough to realise he was in danger. In panic, he stood and tried to get away. He made the mistake to turn, he saw the last few seconds of his pitiful life in fear. A long wolf muzzle, iridescent eyes, lips curled into a snarl and brazen white teeth. Teeth that went straight for his throat.

The last thing that man saw, was the ornate scripture that was fastened to the top of the cage, illuminated by the flickering candlelight.

Icarus

Cries of horror echoed from the dead man Clementine's house. people turned from the street, men beginning to hurry towards the steps.
The door crashed open.
There, bloodstained and glorius, was the half winged wolf, Icarus.
SCREAMING.

so im sadomasochistic,,,

I remember you...

The ears of a masked phantome pricked upwards just outside the human village. Curious, he sneaked through the shadows, as all the men arrived at the scene.

SCREAMING.

The screaming was what attracted her to this particular spot. The sights and sounds of this unappealing environment clogged her ears with such business, she thought her delicate brain would implode. Every scent here was jumbled, and loud, and arrogant, every sound even louder and more arrogant. Now that the screaming began it was more of a panicked mess than the slightly organised one previous.

Mele just had to smile.

They kept to the alleys and the shadows, getting ready for some sort of signal to come into the open. The humans with their blind noses and dumb ears did not notice that there were a small band of rangy, possibly psychotic wolves within their midst. The dogs, however, were a different story. They barked and they whined persistantly at their masters, begging them to follow, to look, to find and fight the wilderness in their safe, domesticated lives.

That wasnt to say the humans were useless, par se.

So, the plan. The plan was to get the humans up and running and chasing the Edryd Wolves out through Glyn, up into Eira, and smack into Auryn. That way, they would cause as much devastation as possible in the other two packs before they even got to the desired destination, which was the stark desert that housed Auryn. Druid would not know what hit her, what with Kazak still on the loose, and the slightly faded scents of her beta and her henchman. Mele had noted this on their treck through Auryn to get here, how different scents lingered in their hidey holes. She also noted the beta scent [not entirely unlike the white male who escorted Druid to her homeland, the one who needed to retrieve the stick from his arse] stretched towards the renegade lands.

Mele shrugged this off, knowing the rest of her precious pack would follow the sound of the screaming, and headed in that direction herself. For the first time, the marmalade wolf cursed her colouring. Aodh had no trouble in any of the corners in this place, became the shadow if you will. Seth and the Alphess however, stood out like a sore thumb, and would have to be more wily in their efforts. Discordia was in that limbo mode where some shadows she could escape to, some she couldnt - Mele couldnt help but envy this too.

The weird hard soil beneath her feet caused her sharpened claws to click as she walked. Weird stuff. Concrete, was it? Weird. The commotion grew louder as she neared the focal point of the screaming. Ohhh great, another wolf. She twisted her head to the side. No one else here yet, soo, wait a bit. Another sight caught her eye, out of place in the scene. The shadow opposite her held a floating white mask, carressing a blood droplet in the middle of it. Mele cocked her head slightly as her eyes focussed more on the subject until she finally made out the shape of another wolf. Blazing hard eyes narrowed before she could finally see that the brute was mouthing words to her.

Chaos, yes? I'll help you.
Why?
I like chaos.

Mele nodded an affirmitive, glancing back to the shining white wolf grappling a man that attempted to sneak out from behind him. Clocking the strange canine opposite her alleyway.

Who is that?
A friend.

By the smirk Mele could make out, she could tell that this was a very loose term for what the beast meant to him. More glances round to the shadows and alleyways to check for her pack again, before retrurning to the thrashing white beast. The male was possibly more emaciated than she, obviously more battleworn, more bloodthirsty, and more dripping with the red liquid than the pedastool Alphess, and once more, Mele had to battle the internal urge to break down again at how truely worthless she really was, and concentrate on her surroundings.

The men, men with long, forked spears and small blasting trees that smelt briefly like smoke and sharp tooth and claw like objects in their hands, trying to jab at the white wolf. He dodged and grappled with random, wild fury that totally astonished the orange Alphess. As soon as the others got here, they would circle, and herd them, like the defenceless sheep they were.

Johnny, you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard
'Cos Hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals it hard
and if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
but if you lose the devil gets your soul...

sing me to sleep with a story, love
and in payment I'll teach you to fear

The sandy little lady danced comfortably within the shadows, though notably without the ease with which Aodh managed to disappear within them. Her eyes trailed along the line of the road, claws clicking almost imperceptibly against the strange surface under her claws. What was this rough stuff, anyway? The gummy black line of her lips rose up over her yellowed teeth, a manic grin as she watched the show. She couldn't see their figurehead Alphess, but she knew there would be some kind of signal; of course, being Edryd, Dis couldn't exactly remember what that was supposed to be.

Oh well.

Her eyes caressed the strange figures of the stinking monkeys, now trying to subdue some monstrosity of blood and terror which might once have been lupine. Thick scents clogged the little female's sensitive nose, not the least of which a choking, disgusting sweat and the odors of the ridiculous animals the humans called dogs. The grin turned into a sneer; nothing but sniveling curs, those stupid creatures. Her nose and ears could easily outmatch them.

A scraping sound behind her brought the small wolfess around, snarling in a low voice so as not to alert the humans; her eyes lit on the dark figure slinking behind her and she relaxed minutely. The light caught, for a brief instant, the gleam of red among the ashen black pelt; Discordia's eyes rolled.

Wonderful. Babysitting duty. An ounce of frustration dropped among the female's demeanor; why couldn't the sprats have been left in Edryd?

Albtraum slid up to flank the small female, his five month old frame larger than that of this dainty specimen of his species; he was smaller than both Rex and Moth, but he still managed to look fearsome in the shadows. Although his carbon-colored pelt couldn't blend as well as Aodh's, the dull ebony hid him better than Discordia's tan pelt ever would. Still, she moved with more comfort among the shadows' embrace than he, and in the end they were well matched.

He didn't know what had possessed him to follow this particular Edrydian demon, but follow her he had, and now he waited for the same signal which kept her muscles so tautly strung. She was slavering for the chaotic mess which they hoped to create, and it would have disgusted him if he hadn't been hungering for his share in the bloodshed and violence on his own.

A soft giggle escaped him, cut short by a knife-sharp hiss slicing through the air; it was almost as though the very wind had silenced him. Still, he noticed the glare of Discordia's amber-orange eyes, and a sneer crawled up onto his muzzle; who was she to correct him? He was pack blood; she wasn't. Not that he was anything as touchy as Rex on the subject. Alb wondered where his gallumphing giant of a brother had gotten to; was he attempting to hold on his own, or was he holed up with one of the adults or with the other pups?

Peh. Whatever. It didn't matter where the puppet's successor was; Alb only hoped the attack would begin soon. He didn't just want to see blood... he wanted to taste it.

Johnny said: "Devil just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been."
And he played fire on the mount, run boys, run.
The devil's in the house of the risin' sun.

silly, you know I don't care, love
to me it's all just a game

luck. runs. OUT.

The lady Mele had called, and that was the reason he had come. Seth had yet to understand the politics of this region, therefore he could not fully comprehend the reasoning behind this whole excursion. But Mele and her plan had lead the way, and as her Beta, Seth had followed.

He did not remember the past month or so that he had stayed in Edryd. The last events that he dwelled upon were those involving the confrontation between he and Aodh--that was to say, he and his mother--and then taking the Eiran princess out of the pack lands. Though something else had told him to stay with her, as soon as she was at the border, he had fled.

The princess... he cursed her and needed her all at once. She was a regular presence in his dreams, or at least she was when he slept. It was a welcome change from the nightmares that had plagued him for so long. How could one female, one he knew close to nothing about, alleviate his pain like that?

That was cause enough to persue her, but he had yet to do so. He could care less that she was from a rival pack, were it not for Mele. She had given him the Beta position, and while trust and loyalty held little significance in Edryd, he didn't want to screw around with that. It was nice having someone on his side, after all.

And that was why he was here. Hiding, waiting, scenting this disgusting air, listening for any peculiar movement that would give them the advantage. His fur had darkened with age (and hatred, as he liked to think), but of course he still stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison to other wolves. So he had learned to use as best he could to his advantage. However, they would never bow to his whim the way they did for his mother, and that was one of few things for which he envied her.

His head stayed erect and his place, but his silvery eyes traveled view a peculiar sight: one of Mele's pups. He had viewed them only on occasion since ensuring this early survival, and he was surprised to see them here. It annoyed him even: they would just get in the way. Why not leave them at home? If they were old enough to be out here, they could certainly be alright back home.

No idea of regional politics. Right.

So let them stay, as long as they followed orders and didn't screw things up. His eyes moved back ahead to where Mele was waiting in the wings, awaiting her debut like the actress she was. Maybe some fun would come out of this act they were about to stage. Anything was possible, after all.

'cause we hunt you down without mercy
hunt you down all nightmare long
feel us breathe upon your face
feel us shift, every move we trace
hunt you down without mercy
hunt you down all nightmare long

He had never actually seen Aodh; infact, none of the litter had. However, she haunted them each, appearing like a phantom in the night, her glowing, mismatched eyes leering through the shade. Under a cloak of darkness he stalked them, hackles raising on each of the litters necks... and then she would be gone; a search of the area in the morning yeilded no traces. If it was her, she was stealthy... but Rex wasn't sure if it was nightmare or reality; after all, the latter yeilded no evidence.

Since Seth's arrival, he'd yet to see this wolf the older members seemed to respect and fear, but his hopes were high he would meet her soon. As he stalked towards the settlement of the humans--enjoying the new plethora of scents--his eye watching the graying shadows of the tall grass, thinking perhaps she was watching all along. However, he did not waste much time on fancy, for the scent of other Edryds refocused him. There was commotion, and Rex quickly skittered to the shadows of the buildings, moving as silently as he could. Though his greyed, dingy coat yeiled him more protection in the shadows than the Beta and Alphess, he was still young, and was not nearly as skilled in hiding himself.

But the brute compensated. Rex drew up close besides Seth, not speaking a word, as the young wolf opened his jowels, revealing gleaming white teeth. Unsheathed talons gripped the compacted earth, scrapping up small grains as he grined them into the dirt. At five months old, he'd reached his full height--as all wolf pups do--but he still had weight to put on yet, a terrifying thought, considering his already massive size. His stock builded yeilded him the ability for short, impressive bursts of speed, but his real terror came in combat. Already talented at utalizing his intimidating frame, in time the life of an Edryd would make him a formidable foe... and terrorizing enemy.

Rex saw this now as his time. As he stared out through black eyes, he watching vthe humans with a bloodthirsty fascination. The mission was to herd... but what was one drop of blood? While the faster Edryds would act as bait, what would it matter if he picked off one of these gods that lagged behind? Hunger snarled from his stomach, and his tongue licked his jowels, saliva welling, anticipating the taste of flesh. Human flesh. A delicacy, he was sure of this, and for a moment Rex started from his crouch--threatening exposure of the pack--before his late brain kicked back in and reeled him back to Seth's side, where he waited impatiently, not focusing on the Beta, only the men.
