Raven

I used to be called Blackfoot
Yet now, that I'm alone
I am Raven
I can no longer speak
or at least on my own
Only caws
and chirps

I wander on my own
mostly, following the wind
I hunt by scavaging
off other wolf's prey
that they have left behind

My fur is as dark as the night
I am male
and I'm quite large
and my eyes blaze yellow
I have no love
yet my heart is pure
and my soul is true
except
I like the quiet
of not being in a pack
and having to go where they go
I want to be free
like a bird

I have but one friend,
I like it better that way
she means everything
to me
yet I can not tell her
I am incapable of
She needs to
say, 'I need you'
first
Then I can easily
knowing that is what I feel
I know I need a companion
