KailaniorKai
Take an eye for an eye!
Turn your heart into stone!
This is all I have lived for!
This is all I have known!
Kailani.
Of family.
All I know is my sister, Haukea.
Brother, Makani left us to die.
Akumu. Slaughtered by Lions.
As was my father, Ikaika.
And mother, Leilani.
The Betas of my old pack,
They too were killed.
And our elder and our story teller drowned.
Three survived.
Haukea and me stuck by each other.
Makani. Traitor. Left us for dead.
I am named for the sea and the sky.
For the water in the springs.
For in the oceans.
And the air in which it breathes.
For the clouds.
For the storms that cascade my mind.
Funny that I had almost drowned.
Don’t yeh think?
My fur is snowy white.
And my eyes are the colour of teal.
Pretty strange, huh?
I am five feet ten from muzzle to tail.
And thirty three inches to the shoulder.
I know no love.
Except that I feel for my sister.
For my heart had turned cold.
Because of that day.
That summer day.
Of family.
All I know is my sister, Haukea.

* Cough *
* Splutter *
* Gasp *
The white yearling spat out the water lining his throat, then watched, dazed, as his sister did the same. They were both drenched, white fur turned a muddy cream from the water, and were shaking uncontrollably.
The male’s teal eyes flashed towards a black shape walking away from them. His ears flicked forwards, locked on, then flattened against his head.
The female watched the path of his glare. Weakly, she growled.
‘He probably thought us dead, Kai…’
‘He still left us…’
‘We weren’t moving…’
‘Still could have looked…’
‘He’s probably scared…’
‘Traitor…’A snarl was fixed on Kailani’s muzzle.
From that moment, when he saw his brother’s back turned on his family, he then loathed him.
‘I’ll kill him… I swear to the Wolf gods, I’ll kill him…’
Haukea looked worried, but there was no arguing with him, not when he was in this state. She twisted her head away from the direction of which Makani had walked, and then yelped.
Kailani’s head snapped round. Akela and Elikapeka. Haukea whimpered, and he nuzzled her cheek slightly, still brimming with the anger that Makani had filled him with.
He stood, shook the water from him, and slowly walked to the elder, and dearest friend. Her greying muzzle was beaded with droplets of water, her lifeless form reflecting the sunlight. Her old and battered form looked beautiful.
Haukea had walked over to Akela. And was nudging her cheek.
‘Mele will never know…’
‘No, I know…’
Haukea looked back with tears in her eyes.
‘We’ve lost them all, Kai…’
‘I know…’
‘What’ll we do?’
‘We’ll stick together, that’s what family is for…’
‘Kai?’
‘Yes?’
‘Promise me something.’
Kailani looked up at his sister’s worried face.
‘What?’
‘Don’t go after Maka.’
‘But, he’s –‘
‘He didn’t know we were alive.’
‘But he still could of –‘
‘Could have what? Didn’t you hear those lions roar? We were still half drowned when they sounded. He took one look at us, thought us dead, and fled. Panic, Kai. He panicked.’
‘But – ‘
‘No buts, promise me. Promise me you wont go after him.’
‘I…’
‘Please…’
‘Ok… I promise…’
He looked down, then looked at his twin out of the corner of his eyes. The teal blazing like a crystal in sunlight.
‘But if he ever crosses me… I will kill him…’
She looked at the floor, then at the dead bodies of the beloved.
‘We had best go… There is nothing we can do for them… And the Lions are still close…’
Kai nodded and gave his sister a small lick on the muzzle.
‘Lets go…’
As Kailani and his sister Haukea parted. Another entered the path of dead bodies left by the Lions. Mele had returned. And the devastation that was laid into her pack was finally revealed to her.
Slaughter.
Massacre.
Death.

Slaughter.
Massacre.
Death.
But now.
I’m on Innis.
And I’ve found Raine.
She is the greatest friend I have had.
In a very long time.
When I’m with her…
I can be…
Me.
And…
I feel…
So…
Alive.
I’m on Innis.
And I’ve found Raine.
She is the greatest friend I have had.
In a very long time.
When I’m with her…
I can be…
Me.
And…
I feel…
So…
Alive.
Waking up I see that everything is OK
The first time in my life and now it's so great
Slowing down I look around and I am so amazed
I think about the little things that make life great
I wouldn't change a thing about it
This is the best feeling.
